A subscription-free digital satellite service from the BBC and ITV, launched 2008.
What is Freesat?
Freesat has been put together by the BBC and ITV and is designed to market a lineup of subscription-free television, radio and data services delivered over digital satellite. It will complement the subscription-free digital terrestrial equivalent, Freeview.
If Freeview exists, why the need for Freesat?
The UK's public service broadcasters raised concerns that during terrestrial switchover, it would not be possible to guarantee access to free digital terrestrial TV to the entire population - and that even after switchover is complete in 2012, public service broadcasts over digital terrestrial will reach a maximum of 98.5% of the UK. They also expressed concern that, at least in terms of consumer marketing, access to the digital satellite platform -free or subscription - was essentially controlled by a commercial operator, Sky. The BBC Trust approved the creation of Freesat on the basis that it will provide licence fee payers with a universal, guaranteed-for-life subscription free platform on which to receive digital services anywhere in the UK.
How does free satellite TV work?
Many channels, including those operated by the BBC, already broadcast free to air on satellite. Many are listed in the electronic programme guide operated by Sky, in order to be easily located by people using Sky digiboxes either with or without a Sky subscription package.

Terms
A Standard Installation is defined as:
- The property is no more than two storeys high and is of standard construction.
- The installer is able to work from a standard extension ladder and there are no access restrictions.
- A maximum of 15 metres of satellite cable per feed/room.
- The installation is for domestic premises and can be installed by one engineer.
Warranty
Your satellite dish installation is covered by a one-year parts and labour warranty. We guarantee that the installation will remain free from defect caused by faulty materials or workmanship for a period of one year from the date of installation. This guarantee does not cover broadcast changes, receiver problems, accidental or malicious damage, damage resulting from natural causes such as high winds, storms or lightning discharge, nor does it cover loss or deterioration of signal reception due to causes external to the installation. Your statutory rights are not affected.

The region of BBC and ITV you will receive is determined by the postcode you enter on setup of your Freesat digital box or IDTV.
